The last thing I wrote in Google’s search bar was Halloween, because it was THE topic of the moment and the only things I knew was that Halloween is an american feast and that, in the U.S., the most part of the people disguise during Halloween’s day. In France, only the kids go from house to house and say ” Des bonbons ou un sort”. So, I went on the web and visited our great friend Wikipedia.
It just told me that Halloween is the contraction of ” All Hallows Eve” wich means “the eve of All Saints’ Day”, this is a really popular festival in Ireland, Scotland and Wales (and in the US of course) where there are many historical accounts. Jack-o’-Lantern, the Halloween symbolic lantern, is itself derived from an Irish legend. Halloween was introduced to North America after a massive influx of Irish and Scottish immigrants especially after the Irish Potato Famine (1845-1851).
